In a fluidized bed reactor, it will support the growth of bacteria that consume nitrate and phosphate over 10% more efficiently than the leading competitor. Reducing phosphate and nitrate can enhance coral coloration and reduce nuisance coatings of rock and decorations.

Directions:

biogen™ should be used in a reactor that provides a flow of water that keeps the beads moving. Bacteria will colonize the beads in 2 - 4 weeks. To accelerate this process use a bacterial supplement such as seed™ or remediation™.

Add 60 mL (¼ cup) per 265 L (70 US gallons) weekly until a total dose of 60 mL (¼ cup) per 85 L (23 US gallons) is reached. Slowly increasing the amount will prevent sudden drops in phosphate and nitrate and reduce the risk of a bacterial bloom. As beneficial bacteria consume the beads, add more to maintain the dose. Do not wait until the reactor is empty before adding more. It is important to monitor the reactor and adjust the flow to keep the beads moving. Non-moving beads may result in anaerobic conditions and possible production of hydrogen sulfide. If this happens, remove the beads from the reactor, rinse them, replace the beads and restart the flow. A protein skimmer is recommended to remove any excess bacteria biomass. For a system without a skimmer, a regularly cleaned mechanical filter is adequate.

phosfiltrum™
phosfiltrum™ is a specially formulated, high-density, granular ferric oxide (GFO). It will rapidly remove phosphates and silicates from both freshwater and saltwater and will not release them back into your aquarium. It is much harder and consequently much less fragile than other GFOs, so it will not break apart into fine particles in your tank. It has the highest binding capacity of any phosphate remover on the market, so it will last much longer before it needs to be replaced. Its distinctive dark brown color identifies it as the premier product in the industry.

Directions:
For best results, phosfiltrum™ should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Use of a filter bag is recommended. Use 50 g (¼ cup) for every 300 L (75 US gallons) saltwater or 600 L (150 US gallons) freshwater.

Leave product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrations with either MultiTest® Phosphate or MultiTest® Silicate. If the concentration of the component you are trying to decrease has not dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, then replace the phosfiltrum™, otherwise leave in place until levels begin to climb again. As long as concentrations remain under control, the product is not exhausted. Over treating is not recommended. phosfiltrum™ is not an exchange resin and does not release anything into the water. It does not leach phosphate or silicate back into the water and may be removed, dried, and returned to service until exhausted. It has also been shown to be critical for the development of pigments in corals, corallimorpharia, and anemones, both the golden brown of zooxanthellae and the green and red colors of accessory pigments.

Most iodide supplements on the market are simply potassium iodide. When added to an aquarium environment, iodide becomes unstable converting to elemental iodine (which is biocidal) and iodate (which is useless to corals, toxic at elevated levels, and can't be tested for). Iodide is the only form of iodine available to corals for uptake. Because of this instability, iodide must be stabilized for aquarium use.

vibrance™ is a highly concentrated (10,000 mg/L) naturally stabilized potassium iodide source for reef aquaria that will restore and maintain iodide levels to those found in natural sea water.
